Where do you live? In London. That's right! However, truth is, it doesn't feel so.

This is, officially, part of London. Uxbridge belongs to the London Borough of Hillingdon, Greater London, however, you don't get the feeling of trully living in London itself. This is a little town in zone 6, two tube lines get here, you have everything you need, but you're far away from central, that's the whole point. I like Uxbridge, we're like a family here, with our own urban tribes - and not-so-urban ones, and with all its special things. To be honest though, I would move to central right now, without even packing my stuff.

First things first. I live in Uxbridge, but not even in Uxbridge centre. I live at Brunel University Campus, a 10 minute walk from the centre or 5 by lovely U3 bus. It's got the whole campus package: student halls, bars, security, etc etc. I live in Galbraith Hall, in an appartment that I share with other 5 people. The good thing about living here is, first, that there's security and it's so safe; secondly, it's kind of living in a hotel. The cleaning ladies come almost everyday, they tidy up, they vacuum, they clean the bathroom, change towels and sheets.. and if needed, they even tidy up your bed. I do vacuum on weekends and I do tidy up my bed every single day, I have to say. They also clean the kitchen. But that is something I also do, although not everyone does so a little help doesn't hurt.

Moving on, in Uxbridge there's basic and not-so-basic stuff. Regarding transportation, we got buses, cabs (the official black cabs and the non-official mini cabs, cheaper option by the way), and a tube station. That's actually a good thing, at least we got the tube. Uxbridge, more precisely, is the very end of both Piccadilly and Metropolitan lines. If you take the Metropolitan, you get to central in 30 minutes; if you hop on the Piccadilly train, you'll get there the next day.

If you need to do some shopping, there's quite a few choices. We got Lidl, Tesco, M&S and Sainsbury's. I prefer Sainsbury's because it's got fresh fish and meat and more variety, in general. If you want to do some shopping - not grocery's shopping, we have two shopping centres: The Pavillions and The Chimes (recently re-named "Intu Uxbridge") that although  not massive, have nice stores like River Island or Topshop.

¡A mí me gusta y me sobra!

If the weather is nice, you can always go for a walk by the canal or hang out in Fassnidge Park. It's small, but it's our local "Hyde Park". I love it! But here's the great stuff: we have an outdoor pool. I recently found it and truth is, it's changed my life. It's located in Hillingdon, which is really really close - so close you can actually walk there, it's just a 10 minute walk from Uxbridge centre. You have to pay 5 pounds to get in and that's it! You can start having fun! I can't even imagine a summer day somewhere else.

If you want to go out in the evening or at night, there's a super special place, The Fig Tree. It's a beautiful english pub, with a lovely terrace and where I always have so much fun. The Slug and Lettuce is more like a "cocktail" bar but still really nice. We only have one club, Liquid. It's not the best club ever, but I have lots of good memories in it  from last year.

As I usually say, and those who really know me will know, I think experiences and life itself are filled with memories of places who made a difference at a certain time, somehow. I don't think a place makes a difference because of its nice restaurants; I think people make the difference. It's people who make places special and unforgettable.

No es el lugar, es la gente.
It's not the place, it's the people.

It's already been a month since I arrived here and I have one month and one day to go. I feel homesick today but at the same time I want to stop the clock and keep making each day count.
